Mapping flood with Envisat's radar
Earth observation aids disaster relief in Pakistan
 
2 September 2010   Devastating around a third of the country, it is estimated that the floods in Pakistan have affected up to 20 million people. As part of the effort to support humanitarian relief, satellite data are being used to generate essential maps of the flooded areas.

Satellite navigation steers unmanned micro-planes
 
1 September 2010   An unmanned aircraft system guided by satnav has been developed within ESA’s Business Incubation Centre to provide rapid monitoring of land areas and disaster zones. The planes have already helped Spanish farmers in Andalusia to fight land erosion.

Space expertise helps Expo visitors
 
6 July 2010   A start-up company supported by ESA’s Business Incubation Centre has developed a new mobile phone indoor navigation system, which will soon help the six million annual visitors find their way around at the largest exhibition centre in Paris.
